In a rare exchange with an international news organization, Russian President Vladimir Putin was interviewed Tuesday evening in Moscow on an array of global issues by The Associated Press.

AP's interview with Putin, conducted on the eve of this week's Group of 20 summit in Russia, was scheduled for distribution across all formats to AP’s member news organizations and other customers worldwide starting at 0500 GMT (1 a.m. ET Wednesday).

The interview covered Syria, U.S.-Russia relations and the upcoming Winter Games, which Russia will host in Sochi, among other topics.

"We are pleased to offer AP's customers this internationally exclusive interview with President Putin, particularly when there is such wide interest in his views on Syria, on relations with the West and on preparations for the Sochi Olympics," said AP Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll. "John Daniszewski, a veteran foreign correspondent who is now senior managing editor for international news, conducted the interview, which was the result of great persistence on the part of AP's news team in Moscow."

The interview was done in conjunction with Russia’s Channel 1 television network.
