Jonathan Katz accepts Medill Medal for Courage in JournalismSept. 23, 2011
The Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism was presented to Associated Press journalist Jonathan Katz in a Sept. 22 ceremony at Northwestern University.
Katz was cited for his in-depth coverage of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on Jan. 12, 2010. The award is given to the individual or team of journalists, working for a U.S.-based media outlet, who best display moral, ethical or physical courage in the pursuit of a story or series of stories.
Katz delivered a speech about his coverage of Haiti as part of Medill's Crain Lecture Series. See The Daily Northwestern account of his remarks, headlined "Katz discusses reporting in Haiti after earthquake" on the campus newspaper's website.
