Barbieri named AP news editor for New
York City
NEW YORK – Richard Barbieri, editor in chief of Legal
Times in Washington, has been named Associated Press news
editor for New York City.
The appointment was announced May 13 by Jocelyn Noveck, New
York City chief of bureau.
Barbieri has been editor in chief of Legal Times, a weekly
covering law, politics and government, since 1999.
He began his career covering law and courts in 1987 at Manhattan
Lawyer, a newspaper published by American Lawyer Media. He
went on to The Recorder, a daily legal newspaper in San Francisco,
where he spent seven years as a reporter and executive editor.
He also worked for two years as an editor at The American
Lawyer, the flagship magazine of American Lawyer Media.
Barbieri is a native of New York, born in Forest Hills, Queens.
He attended St. John's University and Hunter College in New
York.
He succeeds William Sweeney, who resigned.
