AP Press Release

The Associated Press publishes New York Yankees 365

The Associated Press, founded the same year as the first recorded baseball game was played in Hoboken, N.J. (1846), has published a new book chronicling the history of the sport's winningest team, the New York Yankees.

New York Yankees 365 (Abrams; September 2009; U.S. $29.95/CAN $38.95) is a vivid photo retrospective of the team's most memorable moments featuring a foreword by Don Mattingly, the hard-hitting first baseman who became one of the most popular players ever to wear Yankee pinstripes.

"Baseball and The Associated Press grew up together, and no news organization has covered more of the nearly 400,000 professional games that have been played to date," said Tom Curley, president and CEO of AP. "Over the course of the last century, the Yankees have come to embody the majesty of the game of baseball. They are a part of Americana. This book is a photographic celebration of the history and heroes the team has created."

From their early days as the New York Highlanders to their first game in the new Yankee Stadium on April 16, 2009, New York Yankees 365 brings to life all the triumphs and travails of the winningest team in professional sports history. Taken from the voluminous photo archives of the Associated Press, these images are joined by insightful commentary and a running timeline of major Yankee milestones.

Former Yankee pitching great Jim Bouton will be signing copies of New York Yankees 365 at Borders in lower Manhattan at 12 noon on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Borders is located at 100 Broadway, across from Trinity Church and just north of Wall Street; 212. 964.1988.
