Newsman Jenkins named Neb. Capitol correspondent
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nate Jenkins has been named Associated Press correspondent in the Lincoln bureau, where he covers state government and issues of general interest.
The announcement was made by Tena Haraldson, the AP's chief of bureau for Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota.
The 34-year-old Jenkins is a 1998 graduate of Kansas State University with a bachelor's in journalism. He was born in North Platte, Neb., and grew up in Goodland, Kan.
He covered city hall and local government for the Salina (Kan.) Journal for three years before joining the Lincoln Journal Star in 2002. He became a statehouse reporter for the Journal Star in 2004.
Jenkins joined the AP as statehouse reporter in Lincoln in 2006.
Stories he has covered include the state's questionable electrocution protocol, problems with Nebraska's safe-haven law and the state's ongoing water issues.
Jenkins replaces Kevin O'Hanlon, who earlier was named AP's Nebraska news editor.
