Dante Moore
Position: Director of Product Design
Location: New York
Started at AP: 2004-2006, then again in 2008
Originally from: Memphis, Tennessee
Dante Moore originally went to business school, but because of his personal interest in technology he taught himself Web development and became fascinated with design. He observed designers at work, took some classes and over time became so good at it that he was hired for a design job at a prominent e-commerce site. Since 2008 he has been leading a team of graphic designers, information architects and user interface developers to design AP's content portal sites, specializing in user experience and interaction design.
How did you get started at AP?
I started working at the AP in 2004 as a designer in the technology department. At that time the company was focused on moving our data delivery from satellite to internet systems and an interface designer was needed for that work. AP quickly saw the benefits of having a designer, and a year later I was promoted to Product Design Manager and given a budget to hire a team.
You left AP and came back, how did that come about?
The news industry is constantly changing and an opportunity to innovate in AP's technology department became available, so I returned. There is really great stability and work/life balance here, too. It's quite common to meet people who have left AP and later returned.
What kind of projects have you worked on?
Because AP is a global organization there are opportunities to travel. I spent quite a bit of time in London over the last couple of years. Our main video operation is in London and my team led the design effort for our video portals. It was a really exciting project and it's fulfilling to work with so many smart people. My team has contributed to many award-winning projects over the years and collaborating with them and watching them grow is one of the highlights of my job.
What's the best part of working at AP?
The organization has great values and a mission that I can get behind. In a world that's full of chaos, AP delivers accurate information. To be able to support that mission is rewarding.
