SURVEY: HOW MILLENNIALS GET NEWS

A nationwide survey by the Media Insight Project, a collaboration between the American Press Institute and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, offers a fresh look at how young adults consume news. The results, presented Monday at the Newspaper Association of America conference in Nashville, Tennessee, give insight into the habits of America’s first digital generation.

HONORING COURAGE IN PHOTOJOURNALISM

The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) named freelance photographer Heidi Levine as the inaugural winner of the Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award. The award was created to honor the courage and dedication of Pulitzer Prize-winning AP photographer Anja Niedringhaus, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2014. AP photographer Rebecca Blackwell received an Honorable Mention for her coverage of the Central African Republic.

Larson honored for West Africa coverage

West Africa Bureau Chief Krista Larson won the Deborah Howell Award for Nondeadline Writing from the American Society of News Editors, which honors journalists annually for distinguished reporting and photography. Larson chronicled the lives of abandoned orphans, left on their own after family members died of Ebola, and the ethnic war in the Central African Republic. Her reporting "delivered rich content and context on the depth of the crises in West Africa," the judges said.
