AP appoints Lemire City Hall reporter in New YorkJune 14, 2013
Lemire, 33, will take the lead in providing distinctive coverage of New York City politics for a global audience, focusing immediately on this year's mayoral race, Michael Bloomberg's legacy and the city's recovery from Superstorm Sandy.
At the Daily News, Lemire has spent the past six months covering the mayoral race and previously covered the 2012 presidential race, City Hall, and the police and fire beats. He has reported on the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, the 2009 landing of a jetliner in the Hudson River, the Occupy Wall Street protests, and last year's political debates and conventions.
"What happens in New York City's politics often resonates around the world, and Jonathan's experience reporting on the city for a dozen years makes him perfectly suited to uncover these great stories," said AP New York News Editor James Martinez.
Lemire is a native of Lowell, Mass., and a 2001 graduate of Columbia University.
