The enduring power of still images from the battlefront in the video age will be the focus of a discussion among three veteran war correspondents on Feb. 27 in New York.

Peter Arnett, who covered the Vietnam War for The Associated Press and the first Gulf war for CNN, and Pete Hamill, whose distinguished career as a novelist and journalist includes Vietnam coverage for the New York Post, will share the stage of the 92d St. Y with AP journalist Kimberly Dozier, who reports on special operations and intelligence. She will serve as moderator and draw on her earlier wartime experience for CBS News in Iraq and Afghanistan, and for AP covering the Afghan war and Pakistan.

The three will address the impact of still photos in the era of 24/7 video news, real-time video and photojournalism by smartphone.

The program, starting at 8:15 p.m., follows the recent publication of “Vietnam: The Real War,” a photographic history by the AP. The news agency won six Pulitzer Prizes for its Vietnam coverage, including four for photography.

“As a young reporter, I had learned much from photographers about how to see, not merely look,” Hamill writes in the book’s introduction. “From Vietnam, photographers taught the world how to see the war. Say the word ‘Vietnam’ today to most people of a certain age; the image that rises is usually a photograph. An AP photograph.”

Tickets to the discussion can be purchased through the 92d St. Y’s website, which is now  accepting questions for the panelists in advance of the program.
