Our teams & departments

Our talented, international staff brings together different perspectives to advance our shared mission of informing the world. Our success is dependent upon the collaboration of staffers across departments. Our essential operation is comprised of three primary areas: News, Business Operations and Technology.

News

The AP has news operations in nearly 250 locations around the world. Our team of news leaders oversees all areas within the department, including specialty coverage areas such as sports, entertainment, investigations, photos, video, social media and interactive graphics.

Business operations

Talented professionals in our business operations contribute to making the AP more profitable and ensure it functions efficiently all across the globe. Key areas in our business operations include Revenue, Corporate Finance, Legal, Human Resources, and Corporate Communication. These areas play a significant role in development of our product portfolio while also supporting daily operations enabling AP to compete in a fast-changing business environment.

Technology

Technology is one of the largest divisions at AP.  Our products are all technology driven, so this department is inherently part of producing the news and getting our products delivered to customers.  Our technicians, application developers, security engineers and a wide array of other technology specialists work in departments such as Global Cybersecurity, Technology Operations, Technology Solutions, Consumer Product and Technology.

Our Staffing & Diversity team partners with AP executives and hiring managers to identify top talent and optimize presence at diversity conferences and in professional diversity associations. Programs for students and graduates

We offer a variety of programs that help interns develop skills, from cross-format journalism to business professionalism, in a workplace where every word matters.

Internships

Build the foundation for your journalism career with us through our news internships.

The AP Global News Internship is a paid, highly selective, individually tailored training program for students and recent graduates aspiring to be journalists across formats.

Our 2025 program offers a paid 20-week opportunity to journalists who demonstrate solid news judgment and are strong storytellers.

We are now accepting applications for the 2025 Global News Internships.  Applications are due by 12/31/2024.  You may sign up for email alerts at careers.ap.org.

Locations for the 2025 Internships will be in U.S. locations including New York City, Washington DC, and Los Angeles,  and in international offices including London, Cairo, and Tokyo.

The internship is open to U.S. and international students (college upperclassmen and graduate students), as well as recent graduates.

For the summer 2025 program, we will consider applicants with an expected graduation date of August 2024 or later. Those graduating in spring 2024 or earlier will not be eligible.

A resume, which includes details on projected graduation date and/or education status.

A 300-word personal essay discussing the qualities and accomplishments you would bring to the AP as an intern: Why do you want to work for the AP, and how would this specific internship position align with your career goals?

Four to five examples of your best work. Links to an online site of your work are preferred.

A reference letter from a prior internship supervisor, media-related employer or faculty adviser on college/university letterhead.

In addition to the above packet, photo and video journalists should submit a link to an online portfolio.
