AP dominates first-moment coverage of Taiwan earthquake with fast visual turnarounds

An all-format regional team from Taiwan, Tokyo, Beijing and Bangkok produced compelling coverage of a powerful earthquake’s impact across Taiwan. 

The team, consisting of senior producer Johnson Lai, freelance photographer Crystal Chiang, correspondent Chris Bodeen, freelance videographer Taijing Wu, correspondent Simina Mistreanu had a quick reaction to reports of the quake with fast turnaround of first images of tilting buildings that were used by major global outlets.

Images that Lai filed in the early moments dominated the front pages of global news outlets including The Washington Post and The New York Times.
