As the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel approached, journalists in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel had come up with an aggressive plan for visually rich, all-formats coverage.

Then, the war between Israel and Hezbollah happened.

In spite of the volume of spot news — and as the war against Hamas continued in Gaza — the staff produced multiple stories — a deep dive into the devastation in Gaza, a return to a kibbutz that was attacked on Oct. 7 and a look at the West Bank’s devastated economy among them.

The team could have chosen to cut back on the previous plans as spot news developed. But instead, their commitment to telling the story pushed them to deliver all they’d promised.
