Chief photographer Carolyn Kaster first met the Young family more than a year ago at the Ohio March for Life and immediately recognized their story deserved showing. She kept in regular touch, visiting the family at their home and joining them for rallies and canvassing as elections approached both last and this year, and even as they brought their children to the voting booth. All along she captured intimate images that effortlessly flow between daily life, activism and everyday citizenry, which, along with just the right touch on the text from Ohio writer John Seewer, bring to the AP report a beautifully executed photo essay that tells the story of election year for this conservative Catholic family from rural Ohio.
