Washington, D.C. staff photographer Alex Brandon traveled to Florida to cover Trump’s campaign event, which was scheduled for later that day.
When he arrived on the ground, he reached out to his sources in the Trump campaign to inform them that he was staying nearby. Brandon was aware that the Netanyahu-Trump meeting was closed to the press, but he figured he would ask for access regardless of what was it said in the official guidance.
Knowing that there was a high interest from both US and Mideast clients, pulling it off would be a major scoop.
Shortly after, he got a call from his source only asking him how soon he could make it to Mar-a-Lago.
Brandon was the only wire photographer inside the meeting. His photos of the meeting — also the first images of former President Donald Trump without the bandage on his ear — were picked up by clients in all formats.
